An evacuation alert remained in place for Farrell Road residents near Paddlewheel Park in Prince George as the Fraser River rose to 9.56 metres by mid-afternoon Wednesday. The city also delivered high water alerts and flood information to residents of Houston Lane, lower Lansdowne Road and Wiens Road further south and an eye was being kept on the Nechako River, which was backing up due to high flows along the Fraser. The situation also remained the same for residents in Foreman Flats and Shelley Townsite, who are also under evacuation alert, but so far had not been asked to leave their homes, and more rain was expected over Wednesday night and into today. However, the province's river forecast centre expected the Fraser will have reached its peak by late Wednesday and remain well below the 9.86 metres reached last spring. "City officials also urge people to stay away from both the Fraser and Nechako at this time of high water levels," city spokesman Don Schaffer said in a press release. "Both rivers are dangerous at this time and people are advised to stay safe and keep back from the banks of the rivers."
