ALR exemption meeting planned |

The Agricultural Land Commission will be in Prince George on Monday to hear from the public on an application to exclude about 680 hectares of land west of the airport from the Agricultural Land Reserve.
The meeting will be held at the Blackburn Community Hall, 2451 South Blackburn Road at 7 p.m. L&M Engineering and Initiatives Prince George plan to make presentations.
Allowing an exclusion will be a major step in an effort to establish a light industrial park in the airport's vicinity.
Most of the land, 406 hectares, is owned by Henry Rempel, a developer based in the Lower Mainland who owns a handful of apartment buildings in Prince George, while the remainder is split between the Ministry of Agriculture, 154 hectares, and Novak Bros. Construction Ltd, 128-hectares.
Rempel has already won city council's approval to establish a logistics park on 61 hectares of private land adjacent the airport's north end not subject to ALC jurisdiction.
L&M Engineering planning director Heather Oland said the proposal to exclude the additional land is "a crucial component of positioning Prince George as the transportation, distribution, and logistics centre" to service the airport, as well as the CN intermodal facility and the Prince Rupert container terminal.
The airport is currently going through a $36-million project to extend the runway and establish a fuel apron to handle large cargo jets flying between Asia and the east coast of North America.
