DELTA, B.C. - Delta police say a man who died after being hit by a car and then dragged five kilometres by a bus along Highway 17 Friday had been in police custody shortly before the incident.
They say the man was detained by police at around noon on Oct. 3, after appearing to be intoxicated and disoriented - he was taken to a local hospital and left in its care.
Later that day, Delta police were called to a disturbance and found the same man, but officers concluded he was lucid and was able to look after himself.
He was taken to a bus loop and was last seen heading for a Vancouver-bound bus.
But later that evening, police responded to a call regarding a man being dragged near the George Massey Tunnel and concluded it was the same person.
Police are now trying to piece together the last 24 hours of his life to learn about the circumstances surrounding his death.
