A conference that explores B.C.'s inland rainforest will be held at UNBC May 21 to 23. Located east of Prince George and extending south to Idaho and Montana, these wet forests are unusual in that they are located so far inland, but have many features shared with coastal rainforests. They face increasing threats from habitat fragmentation, logging and climate change. UNBC professor Darwyn Coxson will give a free keynote address at 7:30 p.m. May 21 in the Canfor Theatre. In his presentation, B.C.'s Inland Forest: Our Legacy for Future Generations, Coxson will discuss the unique nature and global significance of the inland rainforest, its ecological, social and economic heritage for B.C. residents, and will point out opportunities provided by the proximity to the rainforest for communities in B.C. A display depicting how local artists, school children and others have been inspired by the rainforest will be open to the public at no charge from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 21 in the Bentley Centre. On May 22, there will be a guided tour of the ancient forest followed by supper at the Dome Creek Community Hall.
