CALGARY - Another cownosed stingray has died at the Calgary Zoo.

Zoo spokeswoman Laurie Herron says the latest stingray died around noon today, but tests must still be done to determine what killed the animal.

Herron says of the eight remaining stingrays, two are in critical condition while the other six are in guarded condition and are slowly improving.

She says the survivors are being kept in a highly oxygenated holding tank and that two of them managed to eat some food today.

The zoo is still waiting on preliminary water tests to come back on what killed the 35 stingrays, but more detailed toxicology reports could take upwards of two months.

Zoo officials have not ruled out foul play at the touch tank that opened less than three months ago and allowed visitors to feel and even feed the rays.
