IN STORY NEWS
On a recent trip down south I decided to see how accurate my litre gauge was on my car. It is custom built right into my car and tells you how many litres or gallons you have used -- a handy thing now that you want to know how much your tank will hold when you have to pay inside first.
All the way down the litres were fairly close, maybe within a litre. As I fill right to the neck I came back to Prince George and filled up at a certain filling station, and strangely, it took six litres more. I thought I would leave it for that time and check it next time at the same service station, and it took five litres more then my gauge said it should take.
I approached the attendant and told them what I had found and asked how often they have their pumps checked. They said they had it checked two weeks prior. I thought the next time I fill up I would go somewhere else. The next time it was reasonably close, within a litre. I can handle that.
I read about this on the Internet about motorists being ripped off in the states like this, so I decided to make my own study and sure enough we are being ripped off. It's bad enough with the price of gas and their taking more from us. if I fill up 10 times with a 10-gallon tank and they charge an extra gallon, I'm paying for a tank I never got.

Folks, it looks like W. Bates has performed a public service of sorts here. It's getting to the point where everything your dollar goes for is suspect. I hope he/she reports this to the Better Business Bureau.

Always wondered about the sticker on the pumps in PG. I believe its says something about being set at a certain volume rate at a temp of 15 degrees. The way I figured it was that when winter came and the pumps stay set at 15 that we would get less gas per volume and end up purchasing more gas to fill the tank up. If someone out there knows what or how this setting works please explain.

That is very interesting indeed! It also merits further investigation. It would also be interesting to go back to that first station and see, after this story is out, if it has changed.

The pumps are rated at 15c so basically if the gas being pumped is at 15c you should get exactly 1 litre ( and easier to have one set temp for all pumps to be set to as a standard)..but if its warmer than that ( due to expansion ) you will get less and vice versa if its cold you will get more. Not sure how accurate these settings are on the pumps though.

A young couple I know who are really into cars (and work on them for their coin) told me that it is indeed better to fill up when the weather is 15 degrees or cooler.
