VANCOUVER - A Vancouver Park Board commissioner says using a mobile mill would allow the city to make better use of dead trees in Stanley Park.
Spencer Herbert is asking parks staff to examine the feasibility of new technology for producing timber on a relatively small scale.
Herbert says doing so would eliminate the cost of hauling trees to mills outside the city.
He says nearly 1,100 dead trees are removed from public spaces each year. Many of them are unique hardwoods valued by woodworkers.
The park was devastated by a massive 2006 windstorm that blew down thousands of trees. (CKNW)
