BURNABY, B.C. - Burnaby RCMP are searching for a suspect in a fatal shooting, though they have a lot of work ahead of them.

A 23-year-old man from Langley was shot Friday in a Porsche Cayenne, causing it to crash into a building.

A 17-year-old girl following him in an SUV was also injured in the incident. Police said the two knew each other.

Police don't have a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved.

Cpl. Dale Carr with the Integrated Homicide Investigative Team said the deceased man is not known to police and they are ruling out the shooting as gang-related.

However, he said they believe the shooting was targeted.

"It almost contradicts itself, but what we're saying is that there are earmarks of a targeted shooting," he said. "However, we can't link it to any particular known organized crime or gang group."

The scene was cordoned off overnight and reopened Saturday afternoon.

"There's a lot of work ahead of us," said Carr. "We're trying to link it, trying to find a motive at this time."

It's not clear whether the female was hurt as a result of her vehicle crash or the shooting. She was treated at a Vancouver hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

"We're going to be speaking with the young lady and attempting to establish what she knows and how much she knows," he said.

A canvas team went door-to-door in the area Saturday, looking for witnesses.
