Re: Headline boils Zimbabwe’s woes down to race (letter, May 6).
I was born in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. I went through the wonderful years when it was Rhodesia and through the years when the so-called freedom fighters were committing their crimes against the whites and the blacks.
I live in Canada now because it has a stable government, but I'm not happy because I still meet people who tell me they collected money or goods for the freedom fighters.
Any thinking person watching the news will see what is happening in Africa, mainly Zimbabwe.
African people are going to South Africa to find work and food. In Zimbabwe, thousands are starving, many days the hydro is cut off, no clear water when it's available, telephone lines are stolen, medical costs very high.
That country will never be the breadbasket of Africa as the farms aren't producing like they used to since taken away from the white farmers.
I suggest before anyone can make judgment on people who know what's happening in Africa and writes about it, they should go to Africa and see what's going on for themselves.

Monkey See, Monkey Do...

Every "nation" in Africa has gone through the same torturous brand of tribal conflict since "independence". Please stop blaming their woes on the whitey. There was plenty of hatred to go around on that continent long before we stirred the pot!
