CIVIC CENTREDAN ROGERSDON ZUROWSKICOLIN KINSLEY
Although touted as the two front-runners to be the city's next mayor, Dan Rogers and Don Zurowski were to care to avoid stealing any of the limelight away from Colin Kinsley following his announcement Thursday morning that he'll be stepping down in November. Asked about their political futures, both said they've yet to make a decision on whether they'll be candidates for the top job at city hall and emphasized the contributions Kinsley has made over the 21 years he's been on city council, 12 of them as mayor. "I think it's important right now to focus on recognizing and thanking Colin," Rogers said after Kinsley's announcement at the Civic Centre where the North Central Municipal Association conference is being held. "We haven't always agreed on every issue but I've worked with him for nine years on council and the passion that he's brought to the table and the time he's given out of his life should be recognized and I certainly thank him as a member of this community," said Rogers, who fell just 642 votes short of defeating Kinsley in the last mayoral election. Similarly, Zurowski, who topped the polls with 9,937 votes to win a third term as councillor in the last election, had plenty of praise for Kinsley. "Nobody can question the amount of energy and commitment that he made to this community and region," Zurowski said. "He worked tenaciously....there was an individual who's represented the region very well." Rogers said he'll likely make a decision on whether to run in the next few months, while Zurowski said he'll announce in early September whether he'll run for council or mayor. "I don't make small commitments, I make very large commitments and this is a big one," Zurowski added.
