PINE CENTRE MALL
PINE VALLEY GOLF CENTRE
An open house will be held Thursday evening on proposals to redevelop the Prince George Golf and Country Club and the neighbouring Pine Valley Golf Centre and largely city-owned land along Highway 16 West.
At the open house, to be held at the PGGCC clubhouse, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., three proposals will be showcased, all of which call for converting the PGGCC links into an 18-hole, par-three course with pockets of townhouses and condominiums.
All three also call for an automall at soutwest of the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 97, as well as space for a hotel, seniors independent living and expansion of Pine Centre Mall.
The differences lie in their proposals for the Pine Valley land.
Concept one, called a "high absorption" option that would be completed within 10 years, suggests converting 7.3 ha (18 acres) of Pine Valley into townhouses and condominiums and 6.1 ha. (15 acres) of highway commercial aimed primarily at automotive services.
Concepts two and three are "low absorption" meaning they would likely take more than 10 years to complete.
Concept two proposes dedicating all of Pine Valley to a mixture of highway commercial and commercial and concept three calls for mostly townhouses and condominiuns, 9.4 ha. (23 acres), and some highway commercial, 4.0 ha. (10 acres) behind Wood Wheaton.
Concept maps and further information can be found on the city website. Go to www.city.pg.bc.ca and click on Pine Centre-Golf Course Neighbourhood Plan.

Golf course land proposals
written by GUEST , May 07, 2008 (01:09:29 PM)
Mayor Harold Moffat designated the golf course for the working families. He wanted the course to be affordable for you and me to go for a game of golf. Over the years through terrible mis-management the course is now in debt and they want to sell it off to get in the black again.

I think Mr. Moffat would be or possibly is dismayed at the turn of events that have led to this crisis for the club. I hope that the decisions are for the best for the working families to have golf in a centrally located place such as it is now.

I am so disappointed at the way many issues have failed in Prince George, this looks like another hit to the working familes and one of their favorite sports.

Why an Automall
written by LouisS , May 07, 2008 (01:32:15 PM)
Why would you place an Automall in the prime retail corner in town ? Either put in some varied, but not large box stores and some housing. Make it into a nice little community and not an Auto Mall.
