IN STORY
Two directors have been appointed and two more have been reappointed to the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
Lita Powell of Fort St. John and Bruce Sutherland of Prince George were reappointed, and Fred Punko of Prince George and Michael John Tarr of Prince Rupert have been newly appointed to the board of directors.
The Northern Trust is managed by a board of 13 regional community and business leaders with a mandate to offer sustainable economic benefits for future generations.
In the three and a half years since it began, the Northern Trust has approved investments of more than $41 million in the central and northern area of the province for economic and community development projects. This funding has been partnered with more than $200 million, for total project investments of over $241 million.
It was launched in October 2004 with the help of $185 million from the provincial government. Of that total, $135 million came out of the proceeds from the $750-million B.C. Rail deal and $50 million was announced just prior to the last election to ease the impact of the mountain pine beetle infestation.

More than 300 pounds of live lobster will be flown to Prince George from Halifax for the The 25th annual Lobster Fest by the Atlantic Provinces Association.
The two-pound lobster dinner will be held June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Blackburn Community Hall where 250 can be accommodated.
Tickets, at $39.50, are available by calling Pat at 961-2759 or Connie at 562-3037. Those who prefer to attend the dance only from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. can get a $10 ticket at the door.

Prince George resident Ernest Dougan has been appointed to the board of directors of the B.C. Branch for Kidney Foundation of Canada. He also serves as chair of the Prince George chapter of the foundation.

College of New Caledonia and Career Technical Centre are offering an information night at 7 p.m. today for high school students and parents of potential heavy-duty mechanics students in the CTC program. The program, a partnership of CNC and School District 57, allows high school students to to complete one year of college while finishing their high school education.

The David Douglas Botanical Garden Society holds its annual plant sale Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UNBC Agora. Flats of annuals like marigolds and petunias, shrubs like daphne and nine bark and some creative containers will be available.

Lorraine D'Auray, president of the B.C. Association of Health Care Auxiliaries, will be presented with a proclamation by MLA John Rustad declaring May 10 as B.C. Health-Care Auxiliary Day
The ceremony will be held Friday at 12:15 p.m. in the main lobby at Prince George Regional Hospital.

A Mother's Day Tea, with sandwiches and dessert, will be held Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hart Pioneer Centre. Cost of $4 includes live entertainment.

The latest winners of $50 in the Blackburn Community Association's cash calendar draw to April 30 are Sheila Ireland, Gary Roy of Telechuk, Dave Wilson, John Conway, Brian McIntyre of Terrace, and Delmar Saulnier of Nova Scotia won two draws on April 25 and 29. Shauna Vanz won the $125 draw and Caprice Scott is the $250 end-of-month winner.

The B.C. Sustainable Energy Association Interior chapter holds a presentation May 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Northern Interior Health Unit auditorium, 1444 Edmonton St. Guest speaker is Ken Parker talking about home energy audits and government grants.

The deadline is nearing to nominate someone for the Canada Post community literacy awards.
The awards recognize adult learners and educators in either individual achievement or educator categories.
Submissions must be received in Ottawa by midnight on May 23.
Finalists will be named in July and winners announced in September. Winners will be recognized at ceremonies in their communities and awarded a prize of $300 (individual) or $500 (educator).
