It is devastating to hear of the plight of Tibetans as Beijing cracks down on their protests. It is reminiscent of the brutal regime in Burma. March 10 was the anniversary of the Tibet National Uprising of 1959. Thousands fled from Tibet at the time of the cultural revolution." Many of those left behind were imprisoned and tortured for many years. Thousands died trying to escape or from starvation or brutality. One person I met escaped with a group of 300. Only 13 of them survived by drinking from a trickle of water in a cave, and the last thing they ate was their shoe leather. This person has dedicated his life to relieving poverty among his fellow Tibetans and preserving their culture. The Government of China has committed cultural genocide on the people of Tibet. They can go to jail for having a photograph of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Many monasteries have been destroyed and thousands of nuns and monks have been apprehended, tortured and abused. Canada must take a stand, forego commercial interests if necessary, and politically support the people of Tibet in their efforts to maintain their peaceful traditions and culture. Just because Tibet has no oil is no reason to ignore their plight. Up to this time, Tibetans have followed a path of non-violence and should be rewarded for this. Powerful countries don't want to jeopardize their trade with China, but the people of Tibet deserve better from us and the world. -- Hilary Crowley Summit Lake

Just a side note. This entire oil theory is nuts. If Bush is controlled by oil interests, wouldn't lack of supply drive up prices? There will always be plenty of oil within the system to fuel america...it is the price which goes up. Not the availabilty tha is getting scarce.( I don't see any 70's style lineups anywhere?)
I thought it was the Left-wing idol Hugo Chavez who was practicing diplomacy from the oilwell. You know china's new best friend.
