DHAKA, Bangladesh - Officials say at least 36 people have died after a ferry capsized in a storm in northern Bangladesh.

Local government administrator Sultan Ahmed said an additional 50 people were missing after the accident late Monday in Kishoreganj district. The area is 80 kilometres north of capital, Dhaka.

Ahmed said the death toll can rise as some of the missing people are feared trapped inside the sunken ferry. Most bodies were recovered from inside the sunken ferry.

Local police official Mizanur Rahman said the wooden ferry was packed with about 150 people.
