IN STORY NEWS

Another year of Iceman hell in the books.Hope everyone finished  where they wanted and came out unscathed.I thought I was a little faster this year (certainly felt faster and stronger) but  the times are in and I was only 3 mins faster.Otway.What the heck was with the snow!!!Glad to see (and hear) I wasn't the only one that was having troubles but once again I blew my ski start.Last year I started at the very back cause I was new and didn't want to hold anybody up basically just feel my way through. This year I was going to start middle pack so that I could try and stay with the "FAST" guys. 2 minutes till start time and I run into 2 friends and and the one is thinking that her wax might not be good (yup....talking about you Janna and Dougie!!!!) then I hear the call " 1 min till start ".Wholly crap!!! I burn down throw the skiis on and head to the start, get the outside lane middle pack.Thinkin "SWEET".Horn blows and we're off.Just at the end of the track where we are double poling and I look to my left where there is a big hole right in the middle behind the leaders but I can't get over!!! Same story as last year and I get stuck behind some guys and can't pass.

10km run went awesome. Some slippery sections but overall felt good.Had some really good tunes kicking my ass the whole way which I think is very important. For me I have to have tunes playing to keep me going.Lot's of Nickelback,State of shock,AC/DC,Rhianna.

5km skate.Could have been better seeing as I did this competitively  for 11 years and skated in a world junior trials but,as all you other soloists know after each event you get worn down and technique gets throwin out the window. You begin to turn on survival mode. You just want to finish.

5km run.Strong.The run was very slippery on the residential streets even though they were sanded.

800m swim.I had such a good swimI thinkI broke a record.9 mins is pretty good right???Yup , then I woke up from my dream!!!!I hit the pool caustiously this year as to not lose my nose plug and it started out good. Then I got to lap 5 and someone added weights to my arms cause they all of a sudden got super heavy.Man,if I can give any piece of advice to anyone thinking about going solo next year,  swim, swim, swim!!Even if you are a decent swimmer (and I am not too bad) ,after finishing the other 4 events  you are going to be spent.

Then if your a shift worker like me you'll be off to work for your 12hr shift after a quick bite at the banquet.

So that was how my Iceman 2008 experience went. What an awesome day!!!

Started back to the regular routine on Monday with a dose of group "KICK" at Golds. If you want a great cardio work out you need to check this class out.It combines Boxing with Muay Thai Kickboxing!!

Take care till next time........
