The Prince George’s Spruce Kings announced Wednesday they’ve signed free agent defenceman Maks Percic for the 2024-25 season.

Persic, a six-foot-two, 202-pound native of Maribor, Slovenia, started this past season with the Vernon Vipers and ended it with the Merritt Centennials.

The Cents acquired the 20-year-old Michigan Tech University recruit at the trade deadline, sending the rights to Diego Johnson to Vernon on exchange.

In 44 BCHL games he totaled two goals and 12 assists. He also had a goal and an assist in six playoff games with the Cents.

Persic played for Slovenia in the IIHF World Junior Division 1B Championship and had five assists in five games while leading his time to the tournament title.

“Maks is a player that plays the game hard and plays it the right way,” said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. “With a year of BCHL experience under his belt, he will be a huge piece on the back end for us next season.”

Persic became a free agent along with rest of the Centennials players when Merritt left the B.C. Hockey League for the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League for 2024-25.

He’ll join Michigan Tech in the 2025-26 season.
