Update: Standoff at Prince George townhouse ends peacefully

Area reopened to traffic after RCMP make apprehension

A four-hour standoff between police and a man barricaded in a downtown townhouse ended peacefully on Monday.

Traffic in the area of 20th Avenue and Highway 16 West returned to normal shortly before 3:30 p.m. and police confirmed a man was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.

An RCMP emergency response team was called to the 2000-block Upland Street home at about 11:20 a.m. Armed officers in green fatigues lined a berm in front of the home, neighbours were evacuated, traffic was diverted from the area and an armed police vehicle pulled into parking area in front of the home.

After about two hours, flash bombs were fired into the home and through a loud speaker, police repeatedly told the man he was under arrest on a count of uttering threats and told to give himself up.

After about further two hours and following another round of flash bombs armed RCMP officers moved in. The suspect's name was not provided and charge approval remains pending.
